Texas A&M baseball will have the chance to end Texas's season for second time in three years

Even though Texas A&M baseball had an untimely departure from the SEC tournament, leaving Hoover without a win, they still have a vice grip on a national seed in the upcoming field of 64. The Aggies' regular season was simply too dominant for them to not be given one of the top seeds.

A national seed, of course, means that the Aggies will be playing their regional and super regional at Olsen Field. This is welcome news, as A&M has only suffered three losses all season within the confines of Blue Bell park.

The latest projections for the field, however, have an interesting twist. The Aggies, in the most recent projections from D1Baseball, are slated to welcome in the Texas Longhorns (along with Lamar and Niagara) as part of their regional.

This would obviously be an extremely juicy matchup, and one of the most anticipated of the whole season. The Aggies dispatched of the Longhorns down in Austin without much trouble earlier in the year, winning by a 9-2 mark.

At that point, Texas seemed listless and lost under David Pierce. They managed to turn things around enough to be relatively secure for the postseason, but they, like the Aggies, were dispatched in only two games in their conference tournament.

With the setup of the regional, it's possible these two teams don't even face off, even if this matchup does come to fruition. If the Longhorns lose two of their first three games, for example, and the Aggies go undefeated, the two rivals would never face off.

Still, though, I'm thinking this is more likely than not to happen. Since the Aggies left for the SEC, these two programs are often set up to face off against each other in postseason play whenever possible.
