Hear Texas A&M baseball home crew call Jace LaViolette's amazing leaping catch to rob a homer

Texas A&M baseball wrapped up a late-night thriller last night, defeating the Florida Gators 3-2. It was a narrow victory—even more so than that scoreboard would indicate. The Aggie bats had gone dormant since the early part of the game, and it looked for a few moments like Florida might claw their way back into the game.

The Gators cut it from a three-run game to a one-run game, but the Aggies sent out Evan Aschenbeck to secure the victory. The newly-named Stopper of the Year was throwing well, but the Gators were chipping away little by little. With a man on first, the Gator at the plate took a huge swing to attempt to give UF the lead—and then, this happened.

For those of us not watching in bed on mute—it was nearly 1 AM central when this transpired, after all—the television call was solid. The excitement was palpable.

However, there's nothing quite like listening along with the home radio crew. Andrew Monaco, the Aggies' play-by-play man, is a real treasure, as well—you can hear his emotions fluctuate right there along with every other A&M fan as he describes the action with aplomb. I have often found myself opting for his commentary when watching games for just that reason.

It's no surprise, then, that his call of this play was excellent. If you haven't yet heard it, you can listen at this link or by clicking on the one in the tweet below.

What a roller coaster. You can hear him, in his very Andrew Monaco way, begin to describe the path of the ball almost glumly as it looks like it's going to leave the park. Then, the excitement quickly builds as he sees that Jace has a play on it, erupting in joy when the Aggie outfielder makes the grab.

It's moments like this that make a team, a season—a whole sport, even—just so special. This is truly one special team.
