Making the argument: 3 reasons Mike Elko and Texas A&M football should tab Marcel Reed to be QB1 going forward
I doubt many Texas A&M football fans, coming into the season, thought that the Aggies would be undergoing another quarterback controversy this year. A&M’s situation at signal caller seemed to be far superior than it was at any point over the past couple of years, with a healthy Conner Weigman in a new-look offense.
However, a vocal section of the fanbase has become extremely disgruntled over the first three games with Weigman’s performance. This really only has to do with the first game against Notre Dame, of course, given that he didn’t play against Florida and most are writing off anything that happened with McNeese.
Marcel Reed, though, has energized that portion of the fanbase. The reigning SEC freshman of the week had the reins for this past Saturday, leading to many calling for him to be the starter going forward.
So let’s make the argument: why should it be Reed over Weigman? Here are three reasons.
3 reasons Marcel Reed should be QB1 for Texas A&M football: Guided the team to a road win in the Swamp
This was the first time in three years that the Aggies won a road game. Let that sink in. And, it should be noted, Weigman was on campus for those two years where the Ags were winless away from Kyle, starting a couple of them.
Reed, in his first opportunity, guided the Aggies to a win against the Gators. Yeah, they aren’t exactly the best competition, but A&M has played worse teams on the road and still lost.
Look at the leadership he showed—everyone saw that clip of him getting the team hyped up on the sidelines. It just seems like the team is responding to him better so far.
