Texas A&M football predicted to land top-10 overall recruit ATH Jonah Williams

News has been percolating recently about Texas A&M football making some huge moves on the recruiting trail. Elko and company have been turning up the heat on some of their top targets, and it looks like they may be beginning to reap some results.

As I wrote about a few days ago, the Aggies are right in the mix for the top two safeties in the nation: Trey McNutt from Cleveland, OH, and Galveston Ball's Jonah Williams. Both have visited campus recently, with Williams coming up for the Aggies' annual spring game. Today, Steve Wiltfong of On3 predicted the Aggies to land the commitment of Williams.

This would be a huge development for Texas A&M football. Williams is one of their top targets for this cycle, and is a true national recruitment. There had been a lot of OU momentum recently, but it looks like Elko, Ish Aristide, and compnay may have been able to flip that around and move things in their own favor.

Williams is a very tall and large safety at 6'3" and 205 LBs, to the point where I had been, for a while, anticipating him to play linebacker in college. However, I now think his versatility, given his speed and agility at his size, is too valuable to pigeonhole him at one spot or the other.

With Elko's experience and resume coaching defensive backs, I have no doubt that he has a specific fit envisioned for Williams. I think of a guy like Clemson's Isaiah Simmons, a first-round pick for the Arizona Cardinals that can play at both the second and third levels of the defense effectively. Like Simmons, Williams boasts the build of a linebacker with the movement ability of a defensive back.

No matter whether Williams commits in the near future or not, this will be a dogfight for quite some time. However, if the Aggies can get him in the boat here presently, it will create quite the momentum for the Ags going forward.
