One stat that projects Conner Weigman to be elite for Texas A&M football and beyond
Texas A&M football QB Conner Weigman ranks among nation’s best in this telling stat
I don’t need much preamble about the hype surrounding the signal caller for Texas A&M football. Conner Weigman, even in a rather limited sample size, has captured the attention of quarterback junkies and draft gurus—almost all of whom are captivated by his talent and potential.
Though he only played three and a half games last year, he was one of the nation’s leaders in QBR in his time—an opponent-adjusted stat, so it accounted for the level of competition. His performance against Miami’s defense was one of the most impressive you’ll ever see on several fronts; though he had pressure in his face all day, he delivered time and time again.
It’s performing against that pressure that has become one of Weigman’s signatures, as the Aggies’ porous OL the last two years has given him ample opportunity to display his talents in such situations. And, according to Parker Fleming on X, he’s one of the best at neutralizing defensive pressure.
This is honestly really impressive. With how often he had free rushers in his face, to avoid sacks with such aplomb is a big deal, not to mention the fact that he was absolutely dealing while doing so.
As Fleming outlines, this is a “sticky” stat, meaning it usually replicates from year to year. What that signifies for this upcoming year is potentially massive; sacks obviously go a long way towards ending offensive drives, as a rule, and therefore teams that avoid giving up sacks tend to be more efficient on that side of the ball. If the OL improves and Weigman remains this effective at evading pressure, it could be a huge boost to the Aggie offense.
