Texas A&M baseball set to face Florida in initial College World Series game

It’s been clear for some time that this Texas A&M baseball team is special. We had an inkling heading into the year that this could be one of the best Aggie teams we’ve yet seen, and they have more than lived up to the hype. Through the ups and downs of conference play, this team has stuck it out and now they are headed to Omaha.

Despite a number of injuries to key players, the Aggies were able to sweep the super regional to stay undefeated so far in postseason play. The Oregon Ducks were no small potatoes when it comes to the level of competition offered, but things are about to kick up a notch now that the Aggies are playing in the College World Series.

That said, their first matchup is against a team that barely made the postseason—though one that has looked absolutely dominant since the tourney began. The Florida Gators will face off with the Ags in the first game, which is scheduled for this Saturday at 6 PM CT. The game will be played on ESPN.

The Aggies took one of three from Florida down in Gainesville in the first SEC series of the season. The Gators feature one of the nation’s best hitters in Jac Caglianone, who is slated to be a high MLB draft pick. Meanwhile the Aggies’ own highly-touted MLB prospect, Braden Montgomery, has been sidelined for the year with a broken ankle.

Even though the Gators finished the year with a lackluster record, barely over .500, they will by no means be easy pickings. The Aggies will have to bring their A-game to Omaha, something we haven’t seen a lot of away from Olsen Field this year. If they play up to their potential, however, there’s not a team in the nation that can stack up.
