False report indicating Texas A&M basketball star Andersson Garcia has entered the portal gives Aggie fans a scare

Texas A&M basketball fans—for the most part still not fully over the overtime loss to the Houston Cougars from last weekend—got quite the scare this evening when a report emerged that one of the top players for the Aggies, Andersson Garcia, had entered the transfer portal. Garcia, of course, was nearly the hero of the game against the Cougars when he hit an improbable shot from deep to tie the game as the buzzer sounded.

This is normally where I would embed or link to the report, but I can't do that. The reason for that? The tweets have now been deleted—because, of course, Garcia is not in the portal.

This was fishy from the beginning. Garcia is not at all the type of guy to try to use the portal to try to gin up NIL opportunities (and, for that matter, being in the US on a student Visa could preclude him from earning NIL at all), so something didn't add up.

Then this report from Carter Karels emerged, further casting suspicion on the original reports.

Nearly at the exact same time, Garcia himself sent out a tweet that cleared up the issue once and for all.

"I have not entered the transfer portal. And will not be entering the transfer portal. I am, and was always returning to Texas A&M."

Andersson Garcia

Well, that certainly put everyone's mind at ease. Props to Garcia for catching wind of this so early and moving quickly to address it in a way that put the matter to bed immediately.

Andy is going to be a key piece of this team moving forward. His defense and rebounding ability are essential to Buzz's squad, and he is a huge fan favorite for a great reason. Glad to hear he will be continuing with the Aggies.
