Power ranking the SEC ahead of fall football starting: Significant movement in middle two quartiles
With sixteen teams now in the SEC, power ranking each of them has become a nigh herculean task. Luckily, it is a task to which I am equal. I know what you're thinking—my magnanimity knows no bounds, right? Well, it's like I always say: anything for the reader!
Last time I ranked the SEC teams was directly after the spring portal window closed. There hasn't been a lot of change in the way of roster additions or subtractions since that point, but various tidbits and concerns have been enough to move some teams up and some teams down. But first, let's start with a team that will not be moving.
Power ranking the SEC after Media Days: #16 Vanderbilt
The day that Vanderbilt is not in the bottom spot on one of these is... I don't know. The day that they shutter their football program? So probably not soon.
The outlook for Clark Lea in Nashville is about as bleak as it has ever been. At QB, the 'Dores bring in Diego Pavia, who wasn't always awful for New Mexico State, so that's a plus.
But any other potential positive player for the Commodores seems to have headed out the door—London Humphreys being the biggest loss. On the plus side, it looks like they will bring back De'Rickey Wright, so that's something!
Vandy plays both Texas and Alabama this year, so they are even more likely than normal to go winless in conference. Writing about this is kind of making me sad, so let's move on.
