Power ranking the SEC after Media Days: #12 South Carolina

. . . SC. Previous ranking: 11. . . 12. 533.

The kind of sad thing is that I actually think that the Gamecocks have a chance to be really good, but I really can't bring myself to push them any higher than this. I don't trust their secondary enough to think they'll be super solid defensively (though true freshman Dylan Stewart has all the makings of an alpha along the defensive line), and there are too many questions at wide reciever for me to feel great about their offense.

Still, though, this is a team that could leap up and bite some people. I'd have my eye on the trip to Norman; maybe the homecoming by Shane Beamer, who was hired directly away from OU, could be a sort of... revenge game of sorts? I don't know. Maybe in that Michael Jordan way where you just focus on almost-imagined slights. Anyway, that game comes in between two huge ones for Oklahoma, so the Gamecocks could catch them sleeping.

LaNorris Sellers has the chance to be a huge name in this conference by year's end. Nyck Harbor is an athletic freak at wide receiver: just ask Cam Newton, apparently.

The Gamecocks have some good pieces. They have some solid young tackles as well, but they may not have enough to be starting quality at that position as just freshmen. All this to say: USC needs more to coalesce into a team before I nudge them up from in this range, but the potential is definitely there.
