Power ranking the SEC after Media Days: #9 Oklahoma Sooners
In a preview of what might or might not be said about another team that might or might not also be joining a hypothetical conference such as the SEC later on in a hypothetical article that might or might not be this one, this is a rating premised on the idea that such a jump will make this OU team operate much closer to their floor than to their ceiling. The level of difficulty ratcheting up just takes some big time adjustments, and unless you have the first-ever freshman to win the Heisman on your squad, you're probably going to be in for a rough year. More likely than not.
Of course, though OU fans will fall all over themselves talking about Jackson Arnold, I'm not so convinced he's all that. After all, the last time we saw him, he was throwing three terrible interceptions against Arizona. I mean, I guess he looked good against Arkansas State?
The strength of this OU team will be their defense. With Billy Bowman, Danny Stutsman, and Damonic Williams, this is a squad that has legit stars at all three levels of the defense, and Venables is a proven defensive mind. Let us not forget five-star freshman David Stone, either.
But we've seen what an unbalanced team gets you in the SEC: somewhere between 6-6 and 8-4. Especially with the schedule that OU faces, I'm bearish on their chances to put together the kind of season we've seen out of them over the last decade in the Big 12 as far as win totals. They'll be a solid squad, but I think they struggle this first year.
