Power ranking the SEC after week 1: Texas A&M football falls, UF plummets, UT rises
Power ranking the SEC after week 1: No. 7 - Missouri
51-0 over Murray State! Will I find nits to pick? Yes!
The Tigers did what they needed to do, so I’m not knocking them down a peg quite yet. In fact, I liked what I saw out of the defense here—it’s tough to hold anyone to 1.8 yards per attempt, but the Tiger pass defense was ferocious and aggressive here, as was their defensive front.
Of course, like I said, that’s what you’re supposed to do against a bad opponent. They absolutely shut down the Racers on offense, allowing only a 22% success rate.
It was the Tiger offense that looked a tad lackluster to me. 4.09 points per drive would be a really good mark if they were facing an SEC opponent, but against Murray State? That could be a concern going forward.
The Tigers were simply not as explosive as I thought they might be. For an offense returning a guy like Brady Cook and a receiver like Luther Burden, you’d want to see a few more big plays over the course of a game against a bad opponent.
Given that the Tigers will basically be doing calisthenics from now until when they come into College Station, though, they have plenty of time to work this kind of thing out.
