Even though many teams played cupcake opponents, there was plenty of movement in this week's edition of the SEC power rankings.

Power ranking the SEC after week 1: No. 11 - Vanderbilt

Can we just take a moment here to appreciate the Commodores for buoying the SEC against their mighty ACC foes so far? Thanks to Clark Lea for giving us all a hand here.

Seriously, though, talk about a keystone win for the Commodore program. They’ve been completely languishing for several years, so this is absolutely huge. Diego Pavia is going to be an issue even against SEC teams—he showed that last year against Auburn.

Former Aggie QB Eli Stowers is down in Nashville too, now playing TE. This is a heck of a way to kick off this year for the Commodores, and if things fall right, they could find themselves bowl eligible by the end of the year. I know I’ll be rooting for them.

Still, though, I’m approaching them a bit cautiously here. They came out of the gate like gangbusters, but then they started spinning their wheels while the Hokies came back. There’s room for growth and some definite potential here that I don’t think a lot of people anticipated, but I’ll keep them around this area until they continue to prove they can move higher.
