Even though many teams played cupcake opponents, there was plenty of movement in this week's edition of the SEC power rankings.

Power ranking the SEC after week 1: No. 9 - Oklahoma

aaa. . . . . 9. 464. Previous ranking: 9. team.

A couple of slides ago, I made the analogy of Arkansas’s opponent, UA-Pine Bluff, being the Temple of their division, since Temple is one of the worst teams in FBS. Guess who the Sooners played!

Jackson Arnold showed me something in this game—admittedly, against some not great talent—but I feel better about him coming out of this game than I did coming in, if only slightly. The Sooners will need to play an actual defense before I get any closer to being sold on him, but I did like what I saw from him.

There were certainly some concerning signs, too, though. The offense struggled way more than they should against a team like Temple, notching a paltry 38% success rate. The offensive line, in particular, was troubling in the way they played.

The defense looks like they’re for real, though. They held strong for most of the evening—they could have been way better, but there were no glaring issues here. Tennessee rolls into town in a couple of weeks for a must-watch game; Sooner fans hope Venables and company have things figured out by then.
