Power ranking the SEC after week 2: #3 Alabama

. 3. . . . . Previous ranking: 2. . 523. b

I don’t think that many Alabama fans anticipated, on the day that they dedicated Saban field to the GOAT, that they would be locked in a one-point dogfight with South Florida in the fourth quarter. I imagine the attitude among Bama fans is not exactly sunny following a performance like that.

Regardless, there’s still plenty to be optimistic about. Ryan Williams looks like he is an absolute star. The defense looks like it is still full of top-tier talent as well.

Kalen DeBoer brought with him a penchant for playing these kinds of close games against lower-quality opponents—something that made his Washington squads a little less of a heavyweight in the advanced metrics than they were in the court of public opinion. Saban teams usually did the exact opposite.

That’s an interesting dynamic to watch going forward. The Tide visit Camp Randall this week, and then have a week off before the early game of the year against UGA. You can bet Tuscaloosa will be rocking, but it’s eminently possible that the Bulldogs are simply too much for the Tide in that one.
