Power ranking the SEC after week 3: #15 - Florida

. 15. team. Previous ranking: 15. . . 526. . b.

Here’s the other half of Irrelevancy Bowl 2024, almost in last place—but not quite! The Gators, at least, beat the lower-division team they were supposed to when they took care of business against Samford last week.

This is a team that looks like they have just kind of given up. They showed a little bit of fight after going down 33-7 to take some action against an insanely conservative gameplan, where Texas A&M was clearly just trying to get out of dodge with a backup QB, but there’s way too many qualifiers there to read any sort of optimism into this.

The most interesting question about the Gators at this point is not whether Billy Napier gets canned, but how quickly it happens. If it’s not this week, then surely a loss to Mississippi State would do it, right? And there’s no way a win in Starkville does anything for this program… would it?

We may not have to answer that question. I’m writing this on Sunday night, so it’s entirely possible Napier is gone before I actually get this published.

They might lose to UCF. I’m sorry, but… there’s a strong possibility this team goes 2-10. That’s partially a function of the schedule, but this kind of thing begins to snowball.
