Power ranking the SEC after week 5: #14 - Auburn

The Tigers keep finding ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They found a way to get some points against a stout Oklahoma defense—or what seemed to be so coming into the day—but then frittered away their lead in the final moments of the game.

The quarterback situation is simply too dire on the Plains for them to get where they want to go this year. Cam Coleman is a stud, and Keandre Lambert-Smith is a reliable option out wide as well, but they just don’t have someone behind center who can get them the ball consistently.

The Auburn defense, too, which seemed so disciplined and strong last week against Arkansas, looked like they took a step back this week. OU exceeded their averages on both a YPA and a YPC basis, raising the question: what exactly does this team do well?

The Tigers finish their five-game opening homestand at 2-3, far worse than many fans hoped they would. It’s about to be a rough stretch on the road, as well: they don’t play a home game in the month of October, and they open this trip with a visit to Georgia… who will be out for blood.
