Power ranking the SEC after week 5: #12 - Oklahoma

Like Vanderbilt, this has more to do with some teams moving up than OU moving down. Although unlike Vanderbilt, I was ready to let OU slide down a little bit after this week’s performance.

It is always tough to get an SEC win on the road, so OU should be commended for that. But after last week’s performance against Tennessee, one wonders how the Sooners almost allowed just as many points to an anemic Auburn offense.

This looked like a matchup made in heaven for the OU defense: the country’s worst offense at giving away the ball going up against the country’s best defense at taking away the ball. And while that did play in to the final result here, it’s still a head-scratcher how the Sooners gave up more points than Arkansas did against Auburn—not to mention the fact that they also scored fewer on offense than did the Hogs.

Maybe OU was just playing way up to Tennessee, or maybe they were just playing way down to Auburn. I didn’t like a lot of what I saw out of the Sooners on Saturday, though. They have a bye before Red River, and they’ll need to use every moment of that bye to get ready for that big rivalry game.
