Power ranking the SEC after week 6: Aggies continue ascent, others slide after upsets

Week six was a completely topsy-turvy slate in the SEC. Here's who rose and who fell following all the action this weekend.

Power ranking the SEC after week 6: #13 - OU

The Sooners were idle this week. Sitting at a very shaky 4-1 record, they are still ranked in the top 25, but a loss this week in Red River will likely knock them down a peg or two.

Since moving on from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins, this has looked like a slightly different OU offense, given his dynamic rushing ability. I would say the tradeoff is a diminished ability to pass, but Arnold was so bad in that department thus far in the year, that I’m really not even sure it makes all that much difference.

The OU defense is still for real, though—just like you’d expect with a Venables team. That means they’ll be in a lot of games that they really have no business being in, just by virtue of preventing the other team from scoring. They have a high potential to pull off an upset, in other words.

Part of why the Sooners move down this week is the fact that their lone loss now looks quite a bit worse after what happened up in Fayetteville. Their biggest win, too—over Auburn—isn’t getting any prettier, either.

It felt at the beginning of the season like the Sooners had a ceiling near the upper middle of the conference, but I’m not so sure anymore. We’ll find out something about the character of this team come Saturday.
