We're beginning to get a much better idea of who some teams are, but some SEC football teams remain shrouded in mystery.

Power ranking the SEC after week 4 - #4: Ole Miss Rebels

Previous ranking: 4. . . b. . . . . 4. 532

I still rank the Rebels where I have pretty much all season: bringing up the rear in the elite of the conference. They very well could be better than this, but they simply haven’t given us very much meaningful data due to a pillow-soft schedule so far.

That’s a great way to put up a lot of impressive numbers, but it’s looking more and more like everything will ride on that Georgia game in November. If the Rebels lose that one, they’re in prime position to go to Atlanta and for the playoff; lose, and they could be thrust into the bubble discussion.

But you have to admit that they do look impressive against these overmatched teams, both on offense and on defense. I still need to see Kiffin’s attack scale against more talented teams, but I’ve been surprised with how effective the defense has been. Walter Nolen and Jared Ivey have looked great along the DL, in particular.

Will Kentucky pose a challenge? Probably not! But as I’ve mentioned a couple of times, Ole Miss fans should look out for the trip to Columbia on October 5. That’s the first one on their schedule they could potentially lose—and it doesn’t help that they go to Baton Rouge the following week.
