Power ranking the SEC after week 4 - #9: LSU Tigers
The outlook for the Tigers, who stand at a very shaky 3-1, is not the best going forward. That USC loss looks worse now that the Trojans fell in the Big House, struggling against Nicholls is never great, they should have lost against South Carolina, and they allowed UCLA the most points the Bruins have scored all season—more than they did against teams like Hawaii and Indiana.
Now, one of their brightest stars on the defensive side of the ball is set to miss the rest of the year with an ACL injury. The Tigers are already missing their best interior defensive lineman, so things are about to get a little bit hairy for the Bayou Bengals on that side of the ball—where they were already really struggling.
Garrett Nussmeier is far too up and down at this point. Sometimes, he makes amazing throws; sometimes, he makes throws that make you wonder what in the world is going on. At least the offensive line looks to be as described! Most of the time!
This should still be about an 8-win team, looking at the schedule ahead for the Tigers. But with public sentiment about Brian Kelly always on a razor’s edge down in Baton Rouge, the temperature of his seat will be interesting to follow over the rest of the year—especially if the Tigers lose one they shouldn’t.
