We're beginning to get a much better idea of who some teams are, but some SEC football teams remain shrouded in mystery.

Power ranking the SEC after week 4 - #8: Oklahoma Sooners

. . 464. . . . Previous ranking: 10. . 8. b

I will be honest with you: I expected the Sooners to lose by wayyyy more than they did. And hence, they rose in my estimation and therefore my power rankings!

The defense for this team is definitely for real. Brent Venables apparently can coach defense—who knew! They limited the explosive Tennessee Volunteers to only 1.35 points per drive, which is pretty amazing.

It’s a good enough unit that it will keep them in most games, but their anemic offense still doesn’t look like it will win them a whole lot of contests.

Plus, going ahead, they only have three remaining games in Norman. Their matchup for this weekend, Auburn, looks very beatable now, but a neutral site against Texas and heading to Ole Miss are likely losses (not to mention Alabama at home).

They have enough talent on the offensive side that they should be better. Maybe they figure it out at some point; maybe they don’t. But they’re running out of buffer fast.
