Predicting where Texas A&M football lands in updated AP Top 25: How high will Aggies rise after huge top-10 win over Missouri?
Following their huge win over Missouri, Texas A&M football is bound for a considerable bump in the AP top 25 rankings. The Aggies entered the week at 25, dropping a couple of spots despite winning the previous week.
In fact, they were tied for the 25th spot—with UNLV. Well, you'd assume that the Aggies have put the doubters on notice with this performance—and should therefore rise pretty decently in the rankings.
Several teams ahead of the Aggies either lost or struggled this week as well, meaning the Ags should get a bump ahead of them.
Louisville suffered another loss, falling to SMU. Indiana won, but unimpressively. Boise destroyed an awful Utah State team in a game where no one watched anything but Ashton Jeanty highlights.
Kansas State, OU, and Utah, the 20th, 19th, and 18th-ranked teams, respectively, were all idle. I think we could definitely see the Aggies jump up ahead of all of those teams, given that they have the most impressive single win—as well as the best loss—out of that group.
Here's where it gets interesting. BYU is undefeated at 17, so it could be tough—but not impossible—for the Aggies to move past them. We all saw what happened with Baylor-Iowa State (well, we at least all saw the final score), as well as Clemson shellacking Florida State.
The biggest question is whether the Aggies can rise past some of the teams that suffered upset losses. Michigan and USC are bound to fall precipitously after losses to Washington and Minnesota, so the Aggies can rise past them. Missouri will no doubt suffer the same fate.
So just how high could the Aggies rise? While I think they have performed thus far in the season like a top-15 team, I'm not sure the inertia of the polls will let them rise quite that high. I've got them coming in as the 15th-ranked team today, just behind BYU and ahead of Missouri.
We'll know soon enough: the AP Poll drops at 1 PM central time.
