Five-star DB Jonah Williams, one of Texas A&M football’s top targets, sets commitment announcement for August 24

As Texas A&M football fans should well know, things move at a breakneck pace in the recruiting world. No sooner does one big time target announce than another one is set to make his commitment. Kaliq Lockett, Trey McNutt, and Michael Fasusi are all guys who have upcoming decisions and who are strongly considering the Aggies as their destination.

We can now add one more five-star to that list, as Jonah Williams has set a date for his decision. Williams, a composite top-ten player in the nation, is a safety out of Galveston Ball high school, and has been a priority target for Texas A&M football for quite some time. He will announce his commitment on August 24.

As a side note, it’s very interesting that Oklahoma did not make this top group, given the fact that he was thought to have all but committed to the Sooners earlier in the spring. I suppose we shouldn’t rule out any surprises, but I certainly raised an eyebrow when I noticed the disinclusion of OU here.

Williams has felt like an Aggie lean for quite some time to the fan base, but there have been some concerning signs recently. For one thing, he is making his way to Baton Rouge this weekend rather than coming to the big pool party event that the Aggie coaching staff is putting on in College Station (at least, that’s the word right now—things are ever-fluid in recruiting).

It was thought for a while that Oregon was the biggest challenger to the Aggies, but now it could be the Bayou Bengals. A&M is no stranger to big time recruiting battles with the neighbor Tigers, though, and I wouldn’t count out Elko and Aristide in this one. If you can close this DB class with Trey McNutt and Jonah Williams, that’s as good of a class as anyone in the nation can hope to have at the position—here’s hoping the Aggies can do just that.
