Pro Football Focus displays impressive numbers from Texas A&M football's BJ Mayes

The transfer portal corner could quickly become one of Texas A&M football's premier players on defense if he keeps this clip up.

Texas A&M football's BJ Mayes could be set for a starring year in SEC

If you've read this blog for long, you will know that I have some definite ideas about how this transfer portal class for Texas A&M football might shake out. One of those ideas is that BJ Mayes, the transfer from UAB, will not only be a starter for the Aggies this year, but will be one of the best corners in the conference.

Mayes impresses on tape whenever you watch film from the Blazers. He was one of the only defenders who looked like he belonged on the field when they took on UGA last year, and he practically jumps off the screen with his physical abilities and tough play.

PFF tweeted out today a graphic that included some impressive stats from Mayes, dating back to the 2022 season.

This furthers the idea that Mayes can be a big time impact player for the Aggies. Even watching the Aggies' spring game, I don't think there was another player that looked more impressive than Mayes (outside of Nic Scourton, of course) on the entire Aggie defense.

What would Mayes's emergence mean for the Aggies? Much in every way. The Aggies haven't had a corner who plays this physical in quite some time. Jaylon Jones was massive, but I think Mayes may be a better hitter; for that matter, better in coverage overall.

If the Aggies can get a guy who can shut down one side of the field, that will allow Mike Elko to absolutely run wild with his defensive schemes. I think Mayes can be that guy—and these numbers would appear to back me up.
