SEC 2024 Schedules: 6th Toughest - Vanderbilt

The Commodores just can't catch a break. Even though they don't schedule any marquee out of conference opponents, they still end up with one of the tougher slates in the SEC. Opening with Virginia Tech, which will be a great bellwether for how the Commodores are progressing, is a game maybe 75-25 favoring the Hokies as things stand.

Vandy should get a win at home vs Alcorn, but a road trip to Georgia State is one that could go either way. They follow that up with a trip to Missouri before getting a bye ahead of hosting Alabama.

A quick jaunt up to Lexington to face off with Kentucky precedes a two-game homestand versus Ball State and Texas. Best case, barring something completely unexpected, the Commodores are likely 4-4 with no conference wins at this point.

The final four of their schedule are very tough: at Auburn, home against South Carolina, bye week, at LSU, and home against Tennessee. That's three opponents with designs on the conference title and one that has beaten you every year since 2008.

It's tough to see a path to bowl eligibility normally for Vandy, and even more so with this schedule. All four SEC road games are against teams in the top third of the conference, and they host Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee to boot. Yikes!
