Ranking all 11 of Texas A&M football's wins over Arkansas since joining the SEC
Ranking Texas A&M football's wins over Arkansas since joining SEC: 2022 (23-21)
The only non-overtime game in the top four came two years ago. Despite the fact that this was one of only two wins in the SEC for the Aggies, it will still be fondly remembered for years to come… thanks in large part due to how insane it was.
So first of all, the Hogs were up by 14 before you even had time to blink. Thanks to two long passes by KJ Jefferson, the Razorbacks seemed to have a commanding lead in no time flat.
Max Johnson and Devon Achane answered on a methodical drive to put the Aggies on the board. Then, the Hogs began to put together their own long drive, getting all the way down to the two. They only needed to punch it in to continue their vice grip on the game. Instead, this happened.
This wasn’t the end of the craziness, however. The Hogs found it eminently difficult to move the ball from that point on, even though they were facing off against what would prove to be a porous rush defense for the Ags that year.
But as A&M was clinging to a 23-21 lead (shout out to Randy Bond), the Hogs had finally put themselves in position to take the lead back, very late in the game. They lined up, ready to kick a field goal to make it two straight against the Aggies… and hit the top of the upright.
I have watched college football for a while, and I don’t know I’ve ever seen a kicker hit the top of the upright outside of this game. This was the game that I really began to ponder whether the Hogs are cursed in this matchup.
