If this report proves to be accurate, Trev Alberts and Texas A&M have moved very quickly to replace Jim Schlossnagle.

Report: Texas A&M baseball closing in on hire, down to two names; press conference coming soon

Ever since Jim Schlossnagle's move to Austin became a reality, it has been imperative for Texas A&M baseball to move quickly in replacing him. Given the fact that Schloss brought practically his whole staff with him to Austin, and the realities of the portal in modern collegiate athletics, the Aggies getting a jump on a big hire is a must.

Only hours removed from the move going official, a report has emerged that Texas A&M baseball has zeroed in on their guy. According to college baseball reporter Jake McKeever, the Aggies are setting up for a press conference sometime in the very near future, which means they are extremely close to the finish line with one of their candidates.

I do like the line "sources are saying it's one of 2 names." I think it's one of many, many names, if you ask me! There are lots of names that exist.

In all seriousness, this is impressive speed, and that's exactly what we as Texas A&M baseball fans have needed out of this search. We obviously don't know the candidate at this point, but if it is one of the coaches that has been brought up time and time again, I think the Aggie fanbase should be pretty happy.

I'm leaning towards UVA's O'Connor or DBU's Heefner at this point, based on some of the tea leaves from around Aggie Twitter. That could all be posturing, of course, but I'd be pretty excited about either of those.

Time will tell if this report is accurate, but there are plenty of Aggies strongly hoping this thing gets across the finish line quickly.
