Post-SEC Spring Power Rankings: #14 - Mississippi State Bulldogs

530. . dofkgnadofgnads. . . . . 14. .

After parting ways with Zach Arnett, the Bulldogs needed to find another guy to run an annoying offense that makes everyone hate playing them—and boy, did they do just that. Jeff Lebby, formerly of OU, Ole Miss, and Baylor (what a resume) is now the head man in Starkvegas, and he’s ready to make the Bulldogs a perennial pest once more.

He’ll have to do so without some of the best skill players for the Bulldogs from last year, however. Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks has departed for a slightly more urbane and cosmopolitan milieu (Los Angeles), Zavion Thomas is headed to the rival Bayou Bengals, and the explosive Lideatrick “Tulu” Griffin is now in the NFL.

These pale in impact, though, to record-setting QB Will Rogers, who is now a member of the Kalen DeBoer-less Washington Huskies. As a replacement, Lebby brought in former Baylor QB Blake Shapen, whose high watermark of his career was “people once thought he would be better than Charlie Brewer.”

Still, though, Mississippi State has a penchant for jumping up and giving teams a scare or two, especially at home in Starkville. If Lebby can get the Bulldogs back to bowl eligibility and come close to knocking off a big name team, it will be a successful year for MSU.
