Texas A&M baseball: Aggies' seeding, matchup for SEC tournament set
Texas A&M baseball nets #4 seed in SEC tournament, will receive first-round bye
After a high-flying regular season for Texas A&M baseball, the Aggies are finally set for their games in Hoover. Though the Aggies finished with the top spot in RPI in the nation, they are still only the 4th seed in the SEC, which should speak to just how difficult this conference is in baseball.
Being a top-four team by record, however, the Aggies have a bye for the first round. This is important for a couple of reasons: first, it's always great to get your team extra rest before a hotly contested game like those that take place in the conference tournament. Second, thanks to the tournament structure down in Hoover, the Aggies will avoid the early single-elimination portion of the bracket.
Here's a graphical representation of the bracket from SEC Baseball on Twitter (an unofficial account, but still a great follow).
As you can see, the Aggies are set to face off against the winner of Mississippi State and Ole Miss. This isn't the best draw, as the Aggies are 3-3 in six games against these two teams, but there's really no "good" matchup, strictly speaking, when it comes to the SEC Baseball Conference Tournament.
The Aggies will play in the late game on Wednesday, scheduled to take place 30 minutes after Game 7, which will begin at 4:30. If they win, they move on to play the winner of Arkansas and South Carolina/Alabama (depending on who wins their first round game). If they lose, they will face off against the loser of Tennessee and Vanderbilt/Florida (depending on who wins their first-round game). Confused yet?
Conference tournament logistics aside, this will be a great week of baseball. These are some of the best teams in the entire nation, and Hoover always delivers some intrigue and excitement.
