Grambling no issue for Texas A&M baseball; Aggies open regional play with 8-0 win over Tigers

Texas A&M baseball came out to this game today and did what they were supposed to do. The Aggies blanked the Grambling State Tigers today in the first game of regional play, 8-0.

The Aggies ended this one early, putting up seven of their eight runs in the second inning. Their final score would come in the fourth inning, and it was all academic from that point on.

Ted Burton led the Aggies with 3 RBI on 3 hits. Montgomery, LaViolette, Camarillo, and Chestnut all had one each, and Camarillo scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to make it 8 for the game.

This was the kind of performance I wanted to see out of the Aggies. Is this something that has completely cleared up all worry around this team going forward? No, an 8-0 win over Grambling doesn't quite have the power to do that.

But what I did like was the composure and efficiency of this team to come out and not mess around. Grambling was looking for something—anything—to get themselves going against a team that they knew outmatched them. The Aggies never flinched, though, and they took care of business in short order.

The Tigers are now sent to the loser's bracket, while the Aggies will play the winner of Louisiana-Texas. As of the time of writing, the Longhorns lead, 3-2. The Aggies are well capable of defeating either team, but neither will be a cakewalk.

You have the rivalry factor and all with the Longhorns, but I think they're just a better matchup for the Aggies than the Cajuns are. ULL plays a small-ball style that can put a lot of pressure on a defense, and I think something like that could lead to some undue stress. Whoever A&M faces, they will square off tomorrow at 8 PM.
