Texas A&M baseball looks to retain all key portal pieces as star announces return
SEC Freshman of the year Gavin Grahovac announces return to Texas A&M baseball; More good news soon?
Texas A&M baseball fans knew that a glut of portal entries would be coming when Jim Schlossnagle jumped ship for Texas. That number included essentially every key position player—interestingly, the pitching staff remained steadfast in all but one case.
Now, with the hire of Michael Earley, the projection has been that the Ags will retain every big name that tested the transfer waters. A couple have already withdrawn their names, including Hayden Schott and Ali Camarillo (though the latter is still a draft risk).
One of the two huge dominos that Texas A&M baseball fans have been waiting on just fell. Gavin Grahovac, reigning SEC Freshman of the Year and stud third baseman, has announced that he will be staying put in Aggieland. This comes despite message board rumors on the Texas side that an NIL deal north of $1MM had been struck with Gavin to bring him to Austin before Schloss’s heel turn had even been announced.
If you go by the chatter around Aggie circles today, too, it looks like there is still even more good news coming down the pike. Hayden Schott, for his part, seems bullish:
Texas A&M baseball insider Ryan Brauninger seems to be hinting at the same possibility here:
It's beginning to become increasingly doubtful that even a single Aggie portal player will follow Jim Schlossnagle to Austin, which says a lot.
I know it has been reported already that the Aggies are essentially set to keep all their big pieces out of the portal, but it is still exciting for A&M fans to see these announcements officially come in. With Gavin Grahovac back in the lineup, the Aggies will boast one of the nation’s top teams again next year.
