Texas A&M baseball's Braden Montgomery selected with 12th overall pick by Boston Red Sox

Even though Texas A&M baseball is set to bring back a number of major contributors for their team next year, there is perhaps no bigger single contributor than a guy that is headed to the big leagues—Braden Montgomery. Montgomery, a transfer from Stanford who came down to the Aggies and Mississippi State Bulldogs, was a key piece in the Aggies' rotation this year.

His injury against Oregon in the Super Regional round meant he missed the College World Series run, but he made his presence felt in the dugout, lending unwavering support to the team. His on-field acumen, though, has made several Aggie fans wonder if the CWS final turns out the same with Braden in the A&M lineup.

As a stud draft prospect, though, it was always a sure thing that Monty would be headed to the draft after this year. Projected as a high first-round selection by most mock drafts, it would have been nigh impossible, barring a completely unprecedented NIL deal of some kind, to keep Montgomery around.

Now, the Aggie outfielder is getting to fulfill his dream. With the 12th pick in the MLB draft, Montgomery was selected by the Boston Red Sox—one of the most storied franchises in the sport.

It'll hurt not having Braden in the dugout next year. I'm not sure there's been a one-year player for the Aggies more beloved than him in any sport. He truly embodied the Aggie spirit, and put it on display even when the chips were down. This is a huge pickup for Boston, and I have no doubt that Monty will show out in the big show.

The Aggies still await the selections of Ryan Prager and Chris Cortez in this draft, as well as several other prospects. Congratulations, Braden!
