Texas A&M baseball drops first two games for second straight series loss, but Sdao leads Ags to Sunday victory

It was rough going in Oxford for most of the weekend for Texas A&M baseball. Coming into the series, the Aggies knew that two wins in the three games would all but guarantee them a top-8 national seed—which would, in turn, mean they host a super regional.

That's a result of no little consequence for a team that has only suffered a total of two losses at home all year. It was concerning, then, when the Aggies suffered yet another frustrating one-run loss in their opening game against the Rebels. And it was downright upsetting when they sustained their worst loss of the year, a 10-2 decision, in the following contest.

This isn't the Rebels of 2022, either. The national champs of yesteryear have vacated the premises in Oxford, leaving Mike Bianco with a squad that, while talented, have struggled for much of the year to stay relevant. Only 27-24 overall, and 11-16 in conference (including this weekend's results), this is not a team that the Aggies should be losing two in a row to, much less with one of those games coming by a whopping eight runs.

Baseball is a funny game, though, and sometimes these fluke things happen. With the way things have trended recently, however, it's worth asking whether this result is indeed a fluke.

That question tabled for the moment, there's no balm for the troubled baseball soul like a dominant, shutout win. That's exactly what the Aggies got to bounce back on Sunday, courtesy of Shane Sdao.

The Aggies finished the contest with a 6-0 win, breathing a sigh of relief after a difficult weekend overall. This is not a team satisfied with the results of this series by any means, but hopefully this game gives them some positive momentum headed into the final series of the regular season.
