Texas A&M baseball’s final matchup before CWS final set; Aggies will face Florida Gators for second time in Omaha
Texas A&M baseball now knows who they will be facing for a spot in the College World Series final. Following a largely noncompetitive game between Florida and Kentucky, the Gators have punched their ticket for a rematch with the Aggies.
The hope among many Aggie fans was that the early game between the Gators and Wildcats may go for many innings and deep into each bullpen, so that the team that emerged to face off with the Maroon and White would be depleted. However, the Gators ended up blowing out Big Blue by a 15-4 mark, so that hope didn’t exactly come to fruition.
This is a patently inconsistent Florida team, however, so perhaps it’s a good sign that they won big earlier. We could easily see them lay a dud against the Aggies tonight, especially given the fact that the Aggies are now well-rested and the Gators are playing what is essentially a doubleheader.
The Gators are slated to start Liam Peterson, who looked great against the Aggies in game one until the bats came alive in the third inning. He can throw a pretty high velocity, so the Aggie bats will need to be prepared.
It is still to be determined whether the Ags will have Jace LaViolette available for this game after his apparent hamstring injury against the Kentucky Wildcats. Hopefully, he’ll be good to go by this evening.
If the Aggies lose, these two teams will play again in a winner-take-all match for a chance at the championship. Tennessee and Florida State are already underway in a game to either decide the other spot in Tennessee’s favor or similarly extend their side of the bracket.
