Texas A&M baseball set to host regional in College Station; Paired teams still TBA
Texas A&M baseball set to host regional; Team pairings set to be announced Monday at 11 AM
Texas A&M baseball, as expected, has been selected as one of sixteen regional hosts for the tournament this year. The Aggies are one of five SEC teams who have been selected to host regionals in this year's tournament, the most of any conference.
This is great news for the Aggies, as they have lost a total of three games all year at home while winning a whopping thirty-two. Olsen Field has been the site of both blowouts and clutch wins for the Aggies.
This is the third straight year that the Aggies have made the tournament. Each of those three seasons have been under coach Jim Schlossnagle, meaning he has yet to miss the field as the Aggies' coach.
While it has been announced that the Aggies will be hosting, there is still a lot left to find out. For example, Texas A&M baseball's seeding has yet to be announced. If it is a top-eight seed, as is expected, then Olsen Field would host a super regional as well, if the Aggies were to advance beyond the regional round.
Additionally, we do not yet know who will match up with the Aggies in this regional. Recent projections have the Aggies squaring off with either TCU or Texas, so it seems likely that an in-state rivalry will be renewed in one way or another.
The Aggies played the Longhorns earlier this season, of course, winning 9-2. There are always storylines there with that rivalry. With TCU, of course, the undercurrent of the fact that the Aggies hired away Schlossnagle from Fort Worth, one of the best coaches in their history, is going to be present and a big talking point if this comes to fruition.
