Texas A&M basketball adds Nebraska sharpshooter C.J. Wilcher
It was announced today that the Aggies landed a big time transfer commitment from the Nebraska Cornhuskers, C.J. Wilcher. He announced on Instagram that he was headed to College Station for his final year of eligibility.
C.J. Wilcher comes to Aggieland after a three year stint with the Cornhuskers. He started his collegiate career at Xavier where he averaged 3.3 points a game his freshmen year. He finished his senior year at Nebraska averaging 7.7 points and 1.5 rebounds a game.
The Ags actually played Nebraska in the first round of the NCAA tournament this past year and were victorious by a score of 98-83. Wilcher only recorded 2 points in that game in 12 minutes of action. His career high came in an overtime win against Wisconsin this past season where he had 22 points going 5-7 from three.
In his time with the Cornhuskers, Wilcher was the sixth man and was the first one to come off the bench. He is a lights out shooter, especially from the three. This past season he shot just under 40% from the three. This is a huge pickup for the Ags because A&M could really use some outside shooting. With the addition of Wilcher, hopefully there is some more consistency from the outside. The Aggies shot 29.3% from the three, the second lowest in the SEC.
Wilcher is a 6'5, 214 lb big shooting guard. He won't just add value in shooting the ball, but can also get on the boards as well. He is a native of Plainfield, New Jersey where he played high school ball at Roselle Catholic.
This is a big time pickup for Buzz and the staff. He will get the opportunity to get a lot of minutes this coming season. I have a feeling this won't be the last transfer commit as they will host some more visits in the coming weeks.
