Texas A&M basketball lands a big time matchup with Purdue
According to Jon Rothstein, Texas A&M basketball will face the Purdue Boilermakers on December 14 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
For the first time since 2010, the Aggies will play the Boilermakers in what could potentially be a top 25 matchup in the making. Purdue is coming off a loss to UConn in the National Championship, but the National Player of the Year, Zach Edey, will not be returning next year to use his extra year of eligiblity. Nonetheless, Purdue will still be very good. The game will be played on December 14.
This is a huge opportunity for Texas A&M, and will definitely be interesting. With Edey not returning, I believe the Aggies have a good chance to knock them off. It'll be interesting to see how coach Matt Painter fills Edey's role, because it was a big one. Edey averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, and over 2 blocks a game. Quite the shoes to fill.
On the other hand, the Aggies are coming off a 21-15 season and were on the brink of upsetting number one seed Houston in the second round. If Buzz can keep this roster together, which I think he will, I think the Ags will shock a lot of people.
A big reason Texas A&M basketball was able to get in the tournament without much drama was their changed philosophy of non-conference scheduling. They chose to face off with top teams early in the season rather than rack up easy wins, and this is another example of that way of thinking.
No specifics on the game have been released just yet.
