Texas A&M football building championship-level class in Mike Elko’s first cycle
Texas A&M football recruiting: Mike Elko displaying acumen on the trail thus far in 2025
After this cycle, I have a feeling that the questions that surrounded Mike Elko when he came to Texas A&M football about his recruiting might be all but completely put to bed. He and the staff he has put together in College Station have picked up right where the last staff left off on the trail, and even exceeded what they would have been able to do in this cycle.
If you follow recruiting closely, you’re aware of what is colloquially called the “blue-chip ratio.” Essentially, this is the proportion of four and five-star recruits to the total players on your roster. If you want to compete for a championship, all historical data points to the fact that this ratio needs to be over 50%; in other words, you need to have more four and five-stars than three-stars or below on your roster.
So far in this cycle, in a class of 13 commits, Mike Elko and company have pulled in 10 blue-chip recruits. That’s a blue-chip ratio of 77%.
Essentially, what that means is, for a full, 25-man class, the Aggies would only need to land three more blue-chippers out of twelve more recruits overall to be at a championship level. If they keep up this clip, though—and all indications are that they will—this could be a really special class.
The most exciting part? Nearly every big time target for the Aggies is left on the board. Mike Elko and company have Texas A&M football in the running for a large number of five-star players, most of whom are still uncommitted at the moment. The likes of Jonah Williams, Linkon Cure, Kaliq Lockett, Trey McNutt, Michael Fasusi, and others are all heavily considering the Aggies.
With another huge visit weekend taking shape over the next couple of days, the Aggies could be in for another couple of big names jumping in the boat here soon. This first recruiting class under Mike Elko has a chance to be extremely special.
