Texas A&M football QB commit Husan Longstreet ranked as a five-star in new 247Sports rankings

One of the biggest recruiting wins thus far in the cycle for Texas A&M football’s staff is picking up the verbal commitment of Corona (CA) QB Husan Longstreet. A longtime target of Collin Klein’s, since before the OC even arrived in College Station, Longstreet is a bigtime playmaker from the West Coast, and has been highly ranked for quite some time.

With the new rankings update from 247Sports, however, Longstreet earned a distinction that is all-important to recruiting fans (even if not to coaches): he is now a five-star prospect via their rankings. At 28th overall, he has finally cleared the barrier to adding that last star by his name.

Ultimately, the star ranking isn’t the most important thing about him: put one way, it’s simply a measurement of the level of media attention he’s gotten that is attuned to how his skillsets project to the next level. Where a player falls in the rankings is not a sure confirmation or denial of the presence of a skillset that will translate; likewise, prospects can be over or underexposed as regards the attention they get.

When you turn on his tape, however, he really does look the part of what you imagine a five-star quarterback to be. Here’s his evaluation from the article that treats his new status:

“There might not be a rising senior quarterback in the country that can generate more velocity and torque than Longstreet, who has 11-inch hands. A naturally twitched-up athlete, Longstreet is built to play in an up-tempo attack as he can get the ball out fast and beat defenses with his legs.”

Another Aggie target who made this new list is TE Linkon Cure. Cure, another prospect with a connection to Klein from his KSU days, is slated to visit the Aggies on the weekend of June 7. Aggie targets who retained their five-star status are S/LB Jonah Williams, WR Kaliq Lockett, OT Andrew Babalola, OT Ty Haywood, ATH Michael Terry, S Trey McNutt, and OT Michael Fasusi.
