One of Texas A&M's defensive monsters is making an interesting prediction on his game ahead of the 2024 season.

Defensive lineman Shemar Stewart is looking to up his game by a long shot this upcoming season.

He told one reporter that he's looking to get 15 or more sacks this upcoming season. The question is: how will that play out now that we have two defensive lineman looking for high goals in 2024?

Stewart looks to ignite in friendly battle with Texas A&M football teammate Nic Scourton

New Aggie defensive lineman Nic Scourton is no joke, at all.

Before his time with Texas A&M, Scourton was a beast defending the run. He was a big body that played like an skinner outside linebacker. A guy with such skills inside a thick body is a gift for this Aggie defense.

As for Stewart, he will have some assignments to catch up to Scourton's level next season. Scourton had 72 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and forced three fumbles during his time with the Boilermakers. He led the Big Ten conference in sacks last season. Scourton has already led one conference in sacks, it's possible he could go for that same goal in the SEC.

There's plenty of optimism surrounding Stewart's bold take. In plenty of games last season, he pressured the quarterback, coming close multiple times to earning sacks.

At SEC Media Day, the Aggies told reporters how the team would change their third-down package this season. This gives fans some excitement into believing that Stewart and Scourton will look to rush the quarterbacks a bit more compared to last season.

Mike Elko's new defensive mindset gives guys like Stewart and Scourton a good chance to unleash their true talents to chase quarterbacks and rack up sacks. A new coaching staff with a defensive mindset like Elko leading the charge gives Aggie fans hope that Stewart just may hold true to his own words.
