Texas A&M football fans paying close attention to two July 6 recruiting announcements from big time in-state prospects

Texas A&M football has been scorching hot on the recruiting trail recently. In 2026, they added a pair of in-state defensive backs over the past week or so, and in 2025, they've made some significant inroads into the Golden State to snag a quartet of highly-rated California prospects.

The Aggies have yet to begin to fully close on some of their top in-state targets in 2025, however. They added jumbo uber-athlete Kiotti Armstrong in mid-June for their first top-100 player from the Lone Star State, but have been hard after several uncommitted prospects nonetheless.

Those dominos are about to begin to fall, beginning tomorrow. Both OT Lamont Rogers (top-55 composite player in the nation) and five-star LB Riley Pettijohn (31st-ranked overall player in the nation) will be announcing their college commitments tomorrow.

Rogers is one of three highly-rated tackles from the DFW area that the Aggies are in on, alongside Lewisville's Michael Fasusi and Denton Ryan's Ty Haywood. Every school in the nation is trying to land these guys, and there hasn't been a clear favorite for any one of them for quite some time. There's some Missouri chatter around Rogers at this point, but I don't think the Aggies will go away quietly here.

Then, there's Pettijohn. Jay Bateman has taken the lead here and has done wonders to get the Aggies back in consideration after Pettijohn had completely cooled on the previous staff.

Texas was thought to be the leader for quite some time, but the word is that the Longhorns have all but completely faded. Ohio State and USC are still strong contenders, however.

If the Aggies strike out on both of these prospects, it would be discouraging. However, I don't think you can count them out with either at this point. Aggie fans will be watching both of these announcements with great interest—tomorrow has the chance to be a banner day for Texas A&M football recruiting.
