Texas A&M football gaining traction in race with Oregon for five-star prospect
Texas A&M football beginning to close the gap with Oregon for five-star DB Trey McNutt
When five-star defensive back Trey McNutt announced his decision date to be for last week, things didn’t look good for Texas A&M football. Despite hosting McNutt on several occasions over the spring and summer, the Ducks had made a major move in this race and looked to be the front runners ahead of his mid-July announcement.
However, for one reason or another, McNutt decided to delay his commitment. This seemed like an opening for Texas A&M, as reporting had come out in prior days that the Aggies were running in second place. Indeed, as the hour drew nearer, insiders were declaring that the Ags were making their best push to get things back to even with Oregon.
It was because of this that it seemed like his delaying was a good thing for the Aggies. Of course, McNutt’s other finalists—the USC Trojans and the in-state Ohio State Buckeyes—all thought that it was a good sign for them as well.
Now, however, some doubt has begun to creep into the minds of Ducks fans for the first time in a while in this recruitment.
Mike Elko and Ish Aristide are without a doubt a formidable combo to go against on the trail, especially when it comes to DB recruiting. These two are veritable wizards when it comes to on-field schemes, and they’ve helped produce some big names, such as Antonio Johnson.
Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising that they are able to make a move like this, even against one of the hottest programs in this cycle. This would be a big time coup for the Aggies—let’s see if they can close the deal.
