Texas A&M football injury update: Will Conner Weigman play against Bowling Green?

The debate all week among Texas A&M football fans has been over the starting quarterback position. After an inauspicious game by Conner Weigman against Notre Dame, fans were ready for a change of scene at the position.

Even though Weigman followed that game up with an impressive performance throwing the ball, there were many that pointed to the quality of defense he was doing it against in order to hold fast in the opinion that he should not be the option moving forward.

Those fans got their wish in game three, as Weigman was ruled out with an injury against the Florida Gators. Marcel Reed started the game, and though he didn’t end up passing the ball much, his dynamic ability in the rush game complemented the Aggie backs to a T in a dominant win in the Swamp.

The Aggies have kept mum this week about who is expected to start, with Mike Elko even coyly remarking that the A&M starting QB position will be a game-time decision going forward. That in mind, fans have been on the edge of their collective seat so far leading up to game time, seeing who would be out there taking the first-team snaps.

It looks like those fans have an answer, as it was reported by Billy Liucci moments ago that Marcel Reed would receive his second straight start. Conner Weigman is apparently not yet ready to go due to his shoulder injury, according to Liucci’s report.

The news has already started to leak out into the Twitterverse that Reed is the guy today. The controversy would likely have continued to rage this week no matter what, given that BGSU is not exactly a big-name opponent. Even if you would rather Weigman be the guy going forward, this isn’t exactly awful news—another week for Conner to rest his shoulder, and Reed can keep it on the ground against a bad rushing defense.

Here’s hoping Conner continues to recover and Reed continues to shine.
