Texas A&M football labeled top sleeper contender to make CFP this year

Though the chalk doesn’t project this way at the moment, there are clearly plenty of reasons to think Texas A&M football can make a run to the CFP.

Texas A&M football has a real shot to make the College Football Playoff in 2024

Most Aggies are pretty high on the squad for Texas A&M football in this upcoming year. After years of underdevelopment and less-than-satisfactory coaching, there are many fans who feel that the Aggies finally have the right mix of talent and leadership to break through in a big way.

The Aggies are led by Conner Weigman, who some draft gurus have already started touting as a breakout candidate for this upcoming year at the quarterback position—with some even projecting him to be the top arm in the class come NFL draft time.

Not only that, but the Aggies should bring in a downright nasty defensive unit under Mike Elko. The remade secondary and undeniable talent up front will combine to make a potent brew for the defensive mastermind, and I think the Aggies will announce themselves quickly on the scene against Notre Dame in this respect.

Resultantly, it makes sense that the Aggies, though outside the preseason top-10, should be considered a top dark horse contender for the playoff this year.

With the combination of Elko, Klein, and Bateman, not to mention a cadre of assistant coaches, the Aggie leadership and on-field acumen is stronger than it has been in quite some time. This is to say nothing of the talent A&M retains, which is still among the most prodigious in the entire nation.

With the 12-team playoff being instituted this year, a 10-win season in the SEC, provided you get some big wins, could prove to be enough for the Aggies to receive a playoff berth. Saying it is one thing, though—getting there is quite another.
