Texas A&M football lands Longhorn legacy, 4-star DL Landon Rink over Texas, OU, OSU
Texas A&M football notches commitment from Landon Rink, one of their top targets along the defensive line
Texas A&M football landed a big-time commitment this morning, as defensive lineman Landon Rink of Cypress, Texas, announced his verbal pledge to the Aggies. Even going back to the previous staff, Rink was one of A&M's top targets in the class of 2025, and it looks like the new staff was able to bridge the gap and get Rink in the boat—despite his status as a Longhorn legacy.
Rink is currently ranked as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite ranking. Coming in at 6'2", 280, he's not in the Shemar Stewart mold of a guy that looks like an NFL prospect via the eye test alone. You'd have to look at his production to see that—and he has production aplenty.
Rink notched 70 tackles and 15 sacks in his junior season—quite a feat at that level of high school football. He has a motor that doesn't quit, attacking every play with high intensity. That's the kind of guy that's a take for your team every day of the week and twice on Sundays. In other words, despite what some may judge to be below-average measurables for an SEC lineman, there is a reason he is so productive.
This is a big win for new defensive line coach Sean Spencer. He had to stand in with some heavyweights to win out in this recruitment, and he more than held his own. We knew he was a big time recruiter when he was hired, and he has shown it so far, now bringing in Rink in addition to landing guys like Solomon Williams at the last moment in the previous cycle.
This is a diamond-in-the-rough pickup for Elko and company based on some of the ratings Rink has, but I think it is one that will bear out their talent in evaluating prospects. Given some of the competition for Rink, it's not hard to see why this is a big win.
