Texas A&M football set to host 5-star DB Trey McNutt this weekend; Aggies look to close the deal over Oregon, Ohio State

Texas A&M football is currently deadlocked with the Oregon Ducks for a big time five-star recruit. Trey McNutt is a highly-regarded defensive back out of Shaker Heights, Ohio, who has visited both College Station and Eugene multiple times, and is coming down to a decision between the two schools.

As of about a week ago, it seemed all but certain that McNutt was headed to the West Coast. He had a late July decision date set, and all intel indicated that he would soon be adding his name to the impressive list of recruits who have pledged to Oregon thus far in the 2025 cycle.

However, as the day approached, he apparently decided to think about it a little longer. Information began to leak out that the Aggies were making a big push in the 11th hour, and it was ostensibly enough to cause him to push his decision date back to August 3rd—only a week and a half from today.

Now, even more intriguing information has emerged. Texas A&M football is looking to host a huge recruiting event this weekend—a pool party, like in years prior—and it looks like McNutt is on the guest list for this event.

This is by no means a sure thing, but if I’m the Aggies, I like where things are heading at the moment. First, the star DB backs off when he was slated to commit to Oregon, reportedly after a big push by the Aggie staff; now, he is headed to College Station for a huge event this weekend.

As I’ve said, it would be quite the coup for the Aggies to land McNutt over the Ducks. Just from reading the tea leaves, it looks like things may be headed in just that direction. There’s a long way to go before signing day, of course, but things are looking rosy for the Maroon and White at the moment.
