College Gameday announces week one destination: Aggies set to host Gameday for primetime week 1 matchup with Notre Dame

In one way or another, Texas A&M football is set to be a huge storyline in college football this year. The Aggies are embarking on a new era under Mike Elko, and after the former Aggie DC’s success in Durham as a head coach, many fans are eager to see if he can scale those results to a bigger stage.

After several years of what has felt like wasted talent to many Texas A&M football fans, the sense is that Elko will come in and get a lot more out of the guys on campus. Those results have already started to show, if only in preliminary ways, throughout the program.

Of course, maybe this is all just new coach optimism. Doubtless at least some of it is. But it really does feel like a new age is beginning in College Station: one that will see the Aggies reach heights that they’ve been longing for for quite some time.

This new age will begin with a bang, as the Aggies are hosting the preseason top-10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in one of the biggest matchups of week 1—indeed, of the whole season. There are a lot of connections here: Elko used to be the DC in South Bend, and his former Duke QB, Riley Leonard, is slated to be the main guy behind center for the Irish this year.

Coming to Aggieland to witness the beginning of the new era will be the premier morning show in college football: College Gameday. It was announced today that the Aggies will host Gameday to begin the season.

What a way to kick things off in 2024 for the Aggies. The eyes of the nation will be that much more fixated upon Elko and Texas A&M football here at the start of the 2024 season.

What’s more, the Aggies will be the premier game on TV that weekend. It was also announced that Texas A&M football and Notre Dame will kick at 6:30 PM CT on ABC, the slot traditionally reserved for the top ESPN game of the week.

The spotlight will be on the Aggies in a big way. That’s a blessing and a curse—the pressure is now on to deliver under that lens. I believe Elko and company are up for this challenge.
