Texas A&M football recruiting rumors: DL Landon Rink sets decision date with all signs looking positive for the Aggies

Texas A&M football is looking to assemble a top-tier class in the first year under new coach Mike Elko. Those efforts are well underway already with the work he and his staff have been doing on the trail, and there’s doubtless more to come—what with the massive level of talent in the state this year.

Those efforts may pay off once again sooner rather than later. One of the top prospects for the Aggies, DL Landon Rink, has set his decision date for a week from today, on April 3.

Rink is a composite four-star prospect out of Cypress, Texas. He has the Aggies among his finalists, along with Oklahoma, Penn State, and Ohio State.

Though he is not a five-star or top-100 type of guy—he comes in just outside the top 300 in the composite—he is still a force to be reckoned with. The knock on him comes from his measurables: he is currently listed at 6’2” and 270 LBs.

However, he is extremely productive, recording 70 tackles and 15 TFLs last season. If you’re talking lower-rated prospects, you’d much rather take a guy based on production and tape rather than projections—that’s how you end up with a guy like Taurean York.

An interesting twist here is that Rink’s father, Shane, played at the University of Texas; however, that hasn’t affected his interest in A&M. In fact, it seems as though the Aggies are the leaders in this one, based on current projections.

Four predictions have come in today for Rink to commit to the Aggies. Those putting in their crystal balls may have inside information, but it wouldn’t take too much guesswork to make this projection, as Rink was just on campus last weekend directly before tweeting out his announcement date.

We’ll be watching this one closely. This would be a real boost to the class if the Aggies were to land him.
