If the QB for Texas A&M football lives up to his potential, he could vault himself into rare air for Aggie quarterbacks.

Hype growing around Texas A&M football's Conner Weigman; How far can Aggies go with #15 behind center?

Without question, one of the brightest spots on the roster for Texas A&M football is QB Conner Weigman. The signal caller for the Aggies has flashed a huge amount of talent in the short amount of time he's been behind center—unfortunately, up until this point, that time has been far too short due to injury. Still, though, he's given Aggie fans a lot to be excited about, especially under a new offensive system this upcoming year.

As it turns out, though, it may not just be Aggie fans that are high on Weigman's potential. In a recent graphic from On3, Weigman was selected as one of the top breakout candidates for the upcoming year in college football.

The original list is from Pro Football Focus, who look to be fans of the former five-star. So much so, in fact, that they are projecting that he has one of the highest ceilings at the position coming up this year. How high, you ask? How about first-round level?

It doesn't stop there, either. PFF's Trevor Sikkema ranked Weigman as the top quarterback in the entire sport for the 2025 NFL draft—a bold choice at this point, to say the least, but sometimes you have to get out ahead of these things!

So, how realistic is this, really? Could Weigman be the first guy to come off the board next spring? While, realistically speaking, it's a long shot right now—and I'd obviously love for him to stick around for two years rather than just one—I don't think we can altogether rule it out at this point. That's just how impressive some of the stuff he has done has been. I've talked ad nauseum about how attention-grabbing his play in the Miami game was last year, and I think he has many more performances like that (and better) up his sleeve for this upcoming year.

If Weigman lives up to this kind of billing, the sky is the limit for the Aggies this year. I know we are all tempering expectations with a new coach and coming off of a 7-win season, but if you have a guy like this in the right system—and I have a lot of trust in Collin Klein here—then that could really be the combination that takes you to heights we haven't really dared to talk about as a fanbase.

The Aggies certainly have reasons they should be approached with a degree of wariness in the upcoming season. That said, thought, they also have a lot of reasons that they can reach a high level of success this year. I'm excited to get things kicked off against Notre Dame and get to finding out just how good this Aggie squad can be.
