Texas A&M football sending Trey Zuhn, Taurean York, and Shemar Turner to SEC Media Days in Dallas

For Texas A&M football, and now a whole fifteen other teams, the final landmark before fall camp every year is the advent of SEC Media Days. The four-day event where each coach takes the podium to speak to the press is a yearly tradition in this conference like nowhere else in the nation—what should normally be a somewhat mundane event is instead endowed with the SEC’s trademark pageantry.

With how rigorous the media rounds can get (the SEC Network essentially treats it like a four-day SEC Nation-like event), Aggie fans always look forward to seeing which players are selected to accompany the head coach and represent the program. That determination has now been made, with Texas A&M football sending captains Trey Zuhn and Taurean York, along with senior defensive lineman Shemar Turner.

Texas A&M football fans know well how good of an interview York is—his passion for the game and for the Aggies is one of the things that makes him such a favorite among the A&M faithful. I think the other two spots are also well-deserved—Trey Zuhn is obviously the other captain, and Shemar Turner is one of the elder statesmen on this team who has been starting since he was a freshman.

Mike Elko and the Aggies will be closing out the week on Thursday, July 18. Elko is (somewhat humorously) scheduled to take the podium directly following Mark Stoops—who, of course, was nearly given the job before Elko, as has been well-documented. That could be somewhat awkward!

More than anything, though, this is yet another sign that the season is near. There will be Aggie football next calendar month—and though minds have been drawn to A&M baseball recently, excitement is continuing to grow for Mike Elko’s first year at the helm.
